Codelco has ended its rescue efforts at the El Teniente copper mine in Chile after recovering the bodies of five miners who died in a recent collapse. The accident, which occurred about a week earlier, initially killed six workers by crushing and led to a multi-day rescue operation. Mining operations at El Teniente have remained suspended since the incident. In response, Codelco has suspended contracts with contractor companies linked to the tragedy. Chile's public prosecutor's office is advancing investigations into the accident. On August 9, Codelco secured approval from Chile's mining authority to resume some underground activities at El Teniente, although labor regulators have yet to approve the restart plan.
