Esteban Valenzuela, former Chilean Minister of Agriculture, confirmed that his resignation was prompted by the failure to form a unified electoral list, a key government policy under President Gabriel Boric. Valenzuela cited a lack of coherence and generosity among major political parties as reasons for the unsuccessful attempt to create a single list. Despite stepping down, he plans to support Jeannette Jara's campaign and does not believe his departure will negatively impact her candidacy. Valenzuela also criticized José Antonio Kast, stating that Kast's policies would harm Chile's competitiveness. Meanwhile, Ximena Ossandón, a deputy from the National Renewal (RN) party, emphasized the need for her party to reconnect with voters and criticized Kast's campaign for lacking a solid team. Ossandón identified Jeannette Jara as their main political opponent and indicated RN would support the winner of the first electoral round. She also described Kast's pension reform proposal, particularly the "chao préstamo al Estado" initiative, as the worst among his proposals. Luis Eduardo Escobar, part of Jeannette Jara's economic team, clarified that their pension program does not include reforms to the existing system approved by Congress and dismissed Kast's pension proposals as confusing. Escobar also stated that they do not support new pension withdrawals and emphasized that employment growth depends on economic growth rather than the labor minister's actions. He further noted that they do not intend to reduce corporate taxes or alter the tax system and aim to stabilize national debt, which he said is not as critical as Kast claims. Economic advisor Ignacio Briones, affiliated with Evelyn Matthei, highlighted the lack of economic growth as Chile's main employment issue and criticized Kast's "chao préstamo" proposal for potentially causing system instability and unclear benefits for pension affiliates. Additionally, Chile's government is considering a 2026 budget adjustment to achieve fiscal savings of approximately 1.2 trillion Chilean pesos annually, affecting sectors such as agriculture, mining, and public services. Evelyn Matthei has also publicly criticized Kast's pension proposal, warning it could alarm retirees about the security of the Guaranteed Universal Pension (PGU).
