Apple is moving the bulk of its next iPhone launch out of China, producing all four iPhone 17 models in India ahead of their expected September debut, according to people familiar with the plan. The devices will roll off five Indian assembly plants, including recently opened facilities run by Tata Group and long-time partner Foxconn, marking the first time Apple will ship an entire new lineup from India at launch for the U.S. market. The expansion deepens Apple’s pivot away from China as political and tariff pressures mount. Indian factories exported about $7.5 billion worth of iPhones between April and July, Bloomberg reported, and Tata-controlled sites are projected to handle as much as half of India’s iPhone output within two years. Foxconn’s Bangalore hub and other suppliers are ramping capacity to meet initial demand. Apple’s wider supply-chain shift comes as the company seeks to insulate its flagship product from trade volatility. While President Donald Trump has imposed 50% duties on many Indian imports, iPhones assembled in India remain exempt. Separately, Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook this month pledged an additional $100 billion for U.S. manufacturing as part of a four-year, $600 billion domestic investment program. Beyond manufacturing, Apple plans to refresh its product lineup with the standard iPhone 17, a slimmer iPhone 17 Air, and updated Pro models. By beginning production in India weeks earlier than usual, the company aims to have sufficient inventory on launch day while testing whether the world’s most populous nation can consistently shoulder a larger share of its high-end output.

EXCLUSIVE!! Apple accidentally added the 2025 September 9th iPhone event invite to the AppleTV App before promptly taking it down. The design is reminiscent of the OG MacBook Air wallpaper, likely a hint towards the new iPhone 17 Air. https://t.co/b9qLYTfZJC
