President Joe Biden signed a new national security memorandum on Tuesday aimed at enhancing the protection of U.S. critical infrastructure. This update, which replaces Obama-era infrastructure protections, addresses threats ranging from cyberattacks to terrorism and climate change. The memorandum directs U.S. spy agencies to proactively share intelligence with private companies managing critical infrastructure, focusing on threats from nations like China and Russia, as well as from criminal groups and hackers. No new sectors have been added to the existing 16 critical infrastructure sectors, but the memo includes numerous assignments for various agencies.
