A Capgemini engineer lost Rs 1 crore to a bogus share trading platform via a WhatsApp group. The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) reports a significant rise in cybercrime incidents targeting India, originating from Southeast Asia. The CEO of I4C, Rajesh Kumar, highlighted that cybercriminals are increasingly targeting elections in India with influence campaigns. This year alone, over Rs 7,000 crore has been swiped, with 6 lakh complaints reported. Southeast Asia is identified as a major hotspot for these cybercrimes, with at least 45% of cyber frauds targeting Indians originating from this region. Additionally, 300 Indians trapped in Cambodia staged a protest to expose a job scam by Chinese nationals. The Indian government has rescued 360 Indians forced into committing cyber fraud and set up a control room at the Indian embassy in Cambodia to help job scam victims. About 7,000 cyber-related complaints are registered daily on India's National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP).
