In a separate case, an Inner Mongolian court upheld the death penalty for Li Jianping, a mid-level bureaucrat, who was convicted of amassing $421 million in illegal gains, marking the largest corruption case in the country. Furthermore, Wang Yilin, the former chairman of the China National Petroleum Corporation, was also arrested on suspicion of bribery, as confirmed by state media on August 28, 2024. These arrests reflect ongoing efforts by Chinese authorities to combat corruption at various levels of government and industry.
