
China's top procuratorial organ has approved the arrest of Liu Yuejin, former national political advisor and commissioner for counterterrorism of the Ministry of Public Security, on charges of accepting bribes. Liu, who led the task force investigating the 2011 Mekong Massacre, is accused of losing his ideals, being disloyal to the Party, and obstructing investigations. In related developments, Sun Yuning, vice minister and member of the CPC committee of the General Administration of Customs, is under investigation for severe violations of Party discipline and law. Additionally, Tang Shuangning, former Party chief and chairman of China Everbright Group, stood trial on Wednesday for embezzlement and accepting bribes worth over 14 million yuan ($2 million) in north China's Hebei Province. Lu Jin, former party chief and chairman of China National Gold Group Corp, is also under investigation for serious violations of discipline and law. Furthermore, Xia Haijun, former vice chairman and president of Evergrande, has been banned from the securities market for life and fined CNY15 million (USD2.1 million) for financial fraud.
