The U.S. recently imposed sanctions on a Beijing-based cybersecurity company, accused of facilitating Chinese hackers in infiltrating U.S. communication systems. Liu Pengyu, a spokesperson for the Chinese embassy in Washington, accused the U.S. of being the 'master of cyber attacks' and criticized the imposition of unilateral sanctions. China has called on the U.S. to cease its cyber attacks globally and stop using cybersecurity issues to tarnish the reputation of other countries. The U.S. Treasury Department confirmed a cyber breach by a China-sponsored agent, affecting some of its workstations and accessing unclassified documents through the compromised service of BeyondTrust, though the service has been disconnected and no further access has been detected.
