Recent investigations have revealed a troubling trend of online scams, particularly involving Chinese criminal organizations operating in Myanmar. Reports indicate that approximately 13 individuals from Jammu and Kashmir were rescued from a cyber-fraud hub in Myanmar, where they had been trafficked under the pretense of job opportunities. SSP Counter Intelligence Kashmir, Tahir Ashraf, stated that these scams occur frequently, often luring victims with false job offers. Victims have described harrowing experiences, including being subjected to physical coercion, as highlighted by one survivor who reported being forced to perform frog jumps for 24 hours. The situation reflects a broader issue, with claims that half a million people are trapped in scam compounds, as discussed in a recent episode of the podcast 'Drum Tower.' The Communist Party of China is reportedly intensifying efforts to combat this growing problem, although challenges remain in dismantling the extensive networks of scammers.
