China has removed restrictions on exports of rare-earth magnets to India, according to multiple Indian media outlets on 19 August. The decision was reportedly conveyed in New Delhi by Chinese Politburo member and Foreign Minister Wang Yi during his visit that began on 18 August. Indian officials told domestic press that shipments have already resumed. Asked about the reports, Chinese foreign-ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning told a regular briefing she was not aware of the specific claims but said Beijing "is willing" to deepen supply-chain cooperation with other economies. Rare-earth magnets are critical for electric vehicles, wind turbines and electronics. India, which sources most of its rare-earth components from China, has been seeking to diversify supplies and develop its own processing capacity. The lifting of curbs could ease short-term supply concerns for Indian manufacturers while broader trade tensions between the two countries persist.
