China's Supreme People's Court has unveiled rulings targeting telecom fraud and associated crimes, including sentencing four key figures in cross-border telecom fraud cases to life imprisonment. These cases involved organizing illegal border crossings, forming criminal groups, and targeting minors and students, including those studying abroad. The court publicized examples of fraudulent schemes, such as romance scams and online casino fraud, which collectively defrauded victims of 59 million yuan (approximately $8.1 million). Some operations lured minors into participating, while others targeted Chinese students abroad under false pretenses. In addition, Chinese authorities reported resolving over 550 human trafficking cases in 2024, rescuing numerous abducted women and children. These efforts are part of broader measures to combat organized crime, including operations near the Myanmar border.
