A Chinese court has classified the death of a 60-year-old security guard, who died during sexual intercourse with his girlfriend while on a 24-hour shift at a Beijing factory, as an 'industrial accident'. The guard was the sole security officer at the factory, working without breaks. The court's decision entitles the guard's family to compensation and insurance coverage, overturning an initial rejection by the social security bureau. In the United States, the family of David Loree, a construction worker fatally crushed by a falling air handling unit at Texas A&M University, has been awarded $640 million in damages. The jury's decision included $160 million in compensation and $480 million in punitive damages against TNT Crane & Rigging and other involved companies. Separately, the family of John Barnett, a former Boeing quality control manager who committed suicide after being questioned about his whistleblowing on alleged jumbo jet defects, has settled a lawsuit against Boeing. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed. In Colorado, a mother and daughter were awarded over $4 million in damages after being attacked by the daughter's ex-boyfriend, Cody Czichos, at an EconoLodge in Longmont. The assailant was given a room key by hotel staff, despite being visibly intoxicated and having been asked to leave earlier.
