Chinese state-sponsored hackers have breached 20,000 FortiGate systems worldwide, according to a report by Dutch military intelligence. The cyber-espionage campaign, which exploited a zero-day vulnerability, targeted Western governments, organizations, and the defense industry. The breaches occurred in 2022 and 2023, with some intrusions happening at least two months before FortiGate noted the flaw. Dutch intelligence has stated that the scope of Chinese cyber espionage is more extensive than initially thought, affecting numerous FortiGate devices globally.
