CoinDCX, one of India’s largest centralized cryptocurrency exchanges, suffered a $44.3 million hack in July 2025. The attack was executed within five minutes, likely through a compromised private key. Hackers targeted a CoinDCX employee using a fake job offer, infecting the employee's company laptop with malware to siphon funds into six wallets outside India’s jurisdiction. Despite the breach, customer funds remained unaffected. An employee has since been arrested in connection with the hack. The CoinDCX incident was the largest of several crypto-related hacks in July, which collectively resulted in approximately $142 million in losses according to PeckShield and SlowMist reports. Separately, Arkham revealed a $3.5 billion theft from the Chinese Bitcoin mining pool LuBian in December 2020, involving the theft of 127,426 BTC, which was worth $3.5 billion at the time and is now valued at $14.5 billion. The multi-day hack also drained $6 million in BTC and USDT before the funds were moved to recovery wallets.
