In February 2025, the Infini protocol was exploited in a hack resulting in the theft of approximately $49.5 million in USDC. The hacker converted the stolen funds into 17,696 ETH at a price of $2,798 per ETH. Since then, the value of the stolen ETH has risen to about $59.6 million due to an increase in the price of Ethereum, generating an unrealized profit of over $10 million. In mid-July 2025, the hacker began selling and transferring portions of the stolen ETH, including swapping 1,770 ETH (worth around $5.8 million) for DAI stablecoins and laundering 3,000 ETH through Tornado Cash. Approximately $16 million worth of ETH was moved across different addresses. Despite these sales, the hacker reportedly still holds about $38 million in ETH. Additionally, large cryptocurrency transfers have been observed recently, including significant movements of USDT, ETH, BTC, WBTC, XRP, and SHIB tokens between wallets and exchanges such as Binance, Coinbase Institutional, HTX, Aave, FalconX, and Bitfinex. Notably, an unknown investor transferred 10,603 BTC valued at $1.26 billion, originally purchased in 2020 at $18,000 each, indicating substantial activity in the crypto market.
