India and China have agreed to support each other’s turn at chairing the BRICS leaders’ gatherings over the next two years, according to a joint statement released in New Delhi on 19 August after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi concluded talks with Indian officials. Under the understanding, Beijing will back India’s preparations to host the 2026 BRICS Summit, while New Delhi will reciprocate by endorsing China’s role as host in 2027. The reciprocal pledges aim to ensure continuity in the forum’s agenda at a time when the expanded BRICS grouping is seeking greater economic coordination among emerging economies.
