India said its engagement with Taiwan remains confined to economic, technological and cultural cooperation, pushing back against calls from visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to curb contacts with the island. The clarification came in an official Indian read-out of the 18–19 August talks, which stated that New Delhi’s position on Taiwan "has not changed." Indian sources also rejected Chinese media assertions that New Delhi had reaffirmed Taiwan as part of China during the meeting.
