At the 47th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in Paris, several new sites were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Notably, India's 'Maratha Military Landscapes,' comprising 12 forts built between the 17th and 19th centuries, including 11 in Maharashtra and one in Tamil Nadu, were added as India's 44th World Heritage Site. These forts represent the strategic military architecture and cultural legacy of the Maratha Empire. The inscription was widely praised by Indian leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and other officials, who highlighted the forts' historical significance and called for preservation efforts. China’s Xixia Imperial Tombs, located in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and dating from the 11th to 13th centuries, were also inscribed, marking China's 60th World Heritage Site. Additionally, Germany’s Bavarian fairy-tale castles, including Neuschwanstein, Linderhof, Herrenchiemsee, and the Königshaus am Schachen, were recognized as World Heritage sites, celebrated for their architectural and cultural value. Other new inscriptions include the Diy-Gid-Biy Cultural Landscape in Cameroon, the Faya Palaeolandscape in the United Arab Emirates, the Forest Research Institute Malaysia Forest Park in Selangor, the Mount Kumgang in North Korea, the Gola-Tiwai Complex in Sierra Leone, the Peruaçu River Canyon in Brazil, the Coastal and Marine Ecosystems of the Bijagós Archipelago in Guinea-Bissau, the Phong Nha-Ke Bang and Hin Nam No National Parks extension in Laos and Vietnam, Møns Klint in Denmark, and the Carnac Megaliths in France’s Brittany region. These additions reflect UNESCO's ongoing efforts to recognize and preserve diverse cultural and natural heritage sites worldwide.
