A persistent weather front extending from eastern to western Japan is causing widespread heavy rainfall across the country during the second day of the three-day holiday weekend, August 10, 2025. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has issued warnings for landslides, river flooding, and inundation in low-lying areas, particularly in Kyushu, where a linear precipitation zone (線状降水帯) has formed, notably affecting Fukuoka and Yamaguchi prefectures. Intense rainfall exceeding 100 millimeters per hour has been recorded in Fukuoka, causing overflow from drainage systems and raising concerns about flooding and landslides. Evacuation orders have been issued for multiple municipalities, including 1,203 households (2,609 people) in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture; 1,010 households (2,487 people) in Izumo City, Shimane; and areas in Yamaguchi City, Ube City, and Mine City in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The JMA advises continued vigilance through August 11, with the front expected to remain along the Sea of Japan side of Honshu, bringing rain to broad areas of western and eastern Japan. The rainy conditions are expected to subside around August 12, with a return of sunshine and heat from August 13 onward as the Pacific High strengthens. Meanwhile, China's national observatory has renewed a yellow alert for rainstorms affecting multiple provinces including Jiangsu, Shanghai, Anhui, and others. Residents and travelers during the Obon holiday period are urged to exercise caution due to the risk of flooding, landslides, and localized heavy rainstorms.
