Meteorological agencies across Asia and parts of Latin America have issued fresh warnings for heavy rainfall in the first week of August, alerting residents to heightened risks of flooding, landslides and travel disruption. In China, Beijing renewed its blue rainstorm alert ahead of expected downpours from Monday afternoon to Tuesday morning that could exceed 100 millimetres in some mountainous areas. The nearby port city of Tianjin raised its warning level to yellow after parts of Ninghe district recorded hourly rainfall above 100 millimetres, while authorities in Hebei continued restoring power and roads damaged by earlier storms and braced for further rain. South Korea’s Korea Meteorological Administration forecast up to 150 millimetres of rain across much of the country through Tuesday, prompting the agriculture ministry and several provinces to activate 24-hour emergency response systems focused on flood- and landslide-prone areas. India’s capital was hit by intense showers early Sunday, leaving large sections of Delhi waterlogged and constraining traffic. The weather office expects additional rainfall until at least 8 August. Indonesia’s BMKG said the peak dry season has begun in East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara but nonetheless projected a spike in precipitation over the coming week, listing dozens of provinces on heavy-rain watch for 4–5 August. Jakarta remains under a tidal-flood advisory until 9 August. Elsewhere, Pakistan’s meteorological service predicted strong winds and rain in Islamabad from Monday, Hong Kong’s observatory warned of further heavy showers after a second black rainstorm in a week, Mexico City activated a Yellow Alert for 15–29 millimetres of rain and possible hail, and Argentina’s national weather agency issued yellow alerts for storms in several provinces.
