Massive Phishing Campaign Targets Influential Verified Chinese Users on X, Compromising Accounts Critical of Authoritarian Regimes

A significant phishing campaign is reportedly targeting verified Chinese users and media organizations critical of authoritarian regimes. Multiple accounts, including @helpxmedias, have been identified as pretending to be support accounts for the platform, leading to compromised accounts. Users have raised concerns about the lack of action from the platform, urging for enhanced security measures to protect affected accounts. Prominent Chinese-language accounts, including influential individuals and media outlets, appear to be the primary targets of these attacks. Users have expressed frustration over the platform's response, as many have been scammed or hacked by fake support accounts that exploit verified status and direct messaging links.

Many influential Chinese twitter users (big followers and verified) are scammed/hacked by fake “X support accounts”. The scam is through DM link and verified tick abuse. So for @X has done nothing to address this attack. https://t.co/A7eARiiEKE

For those unaware, my main acct @AwakenedOutlaw was hacked yesterday and due to an awesome Catch-22, I can't verify myself (as all info was changed) so I can't even contact X. I have no other recourse than getting someone's attn. Plx repost.🙏 @X @Support @elonmusk #XHacked https://t.co/QODWF1NUfy
