Chinese President and Communist Party General Secretary Xi Jinping called for greater support for the country’s real economy during an inspection tour of Yangquan Valve Co. Ltd. in Shanxi Province on 8 July, according to Xinhua News Agency. Xi said China "should not abandon the real economy, nor the traditional industries within it," adding that modernisation must be driven by technological innovation and industrial upgrading. Strengthening manufacturing capacity, he said, is essential to bolstering national power and improving citizens’ livelihoods.
