At the 17th BRICS Summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Chinese Premier Li Qiang emphasized the need for a commitment to building an open world economy. He called for opposition to unilateralism and protectionism, advocating for adherence to the World Trade Organization's fundamental principles and the promotion of trade and investment liberalization and facilitation. Li highlighted the importance of enhancing international financial cooperation, supporting the development of the New Development Bank, and welcoming investments from Global South countries into China's financial markets. He also urged reforms of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund to increase representation and voice for developing countries. Premier Li stressed expanding cooperation in emerging economic sectors such as digital and green economies, including the use of artificial intelligence to benefit society and the establishment of a "Digital South" brand. Addressing global challenges, he pointed out rising uncertainties and risks in climate change, environmental protection, and public health, calling for broad international consensus and coordinated action. Li reaffirmed commitment to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement, emphasizing the principle of "common but differentiated responsibilities," and advocated for strengthened cooperation in clean energy and carbon markets, alongside a focus on harmony between nature and humanity through systematic approaches.
