$DOW (-9.2% pre) Dow falls as Q2 earnings miss estimates amid industry challenges https://t.co/bNPga0Bu5z
Dow Inc. swung to a second-quarter loss as weak demand and lower prices hit every operating segment. Revenue fell 7% from a year earlier to $10.10 billion, missing the $10.23 billion consensus. The chemical maker reported a net loss of $801 million, or $1.18 a share, compared with a profit a year ago. Adjusted earnings showed a loss of $0.42 a share, deeper than analysts’ expected $0.17 loss. Operating EBITDA declined to $703 million from $1.50 billion. Management cited a “challenging environment” marked by industry oversupply, high production costs and trade uncertainty. The company maintained its 2025 capital-expenditure target of roughly $2.5 billion and said it is accelerating a cost-cutting programme aimed at generating at least $1 billion in annualised savings, with about $400 million expected to materialise this year. Looking ahead, Dow forecast third-quarter revenue of about $10.2 billion, below the market’s $10.6 billion estimate, and warned that adverse conditions are likely to persist. To preserve cash, the board halved the quarterly dividend to $0.35 per share. Shares fell roughly 9% in early New York trading following the earnings miss and lowered guidance.
