Left-arm spinner Liam Dawson has replaced injured Shoaib Bashir in England’s 14-player squad for the fourth test in the five-match series against India, the England and Wales Cricket Board said on Tuesday. https://t.co/AFUqh25tTF https://t.co/az7Ok9rHE6
England have lost their frontline spinner for the rest of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy after the England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed on 15 July that Shoaib Bashir fractured the little finger of his left hand during the Lord’s Test. The 21-year-old will undergo surgery later this week and will miss the final two matches of the five-game series against India. Bashir sustained the injury while attempting a caught-and-bowled chance on the third day at Lord’s but returned two days later to claim the last wicket of Mohammed Siraj, sealing a 22-run victory that put England 2-1 ahead in the series. He finishes the campaign with 10 wickets at an average of just over 54. The ECB has drafted in slow left-arm all-rounder Liam Dawson for the fourth Test at Old Trafford, which begins on 23 July. Dawson, 35, has not played red-ball cricket for England since July 2017 but has been in consistent form for Hampshire and featured in England’s white-ball sides as recently as last month. His inclusion rounds out a 14-man squad led by Ben Stokes as England attempt to clinch the series before the finale at The Oval.
