California authorities say they have dismantled the largest organized retail-theft operation ever to target Home Depot, arresting 14 people accused of stealing more than $10 million in merchandise from the home-improvement chain. Investigators allege the ring carried out roughly 600 thefts at 71 stores across Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties. David Ahl, owner of Tarzana-based Arya Wholesale, is accused of orchestrating the scheme and faces 48 felony counts including conspiracy, grand theft and money laundering. Prosecutors say Ahl’s so-called “booster crews” funneled high-value electrical components to his warehouse, with some accomplices hitting every Home Depot in Ventura County in a single day. Nine of the 14 suspects have been formally charged; all remain in custody. Authorities recovered an estimated $3.7 million in stolen goods and about $800,000 in cash they described as proceeds of money laundering. The year-long probe was led by the Ventura County Organized Retail Theft Task Force and financed through a California state grant aimed at curbing large-scale shoplifting networks.
