Chicago Police Officer Carlos Baker, who is already under investigation for the June 5 fatal shooting of his partner, Officer Krystal Rivera, is facing a new probe after an off-duty altercation in a Wicker Park bar, according to a Chicago Police Department incident report and people familiar with the matter. A 29-year-old off-duty female officer told investigators that Baker and a woman confronted her late on 10 August in the vestibule of DSTRKT Bar & Grill, pressuring her to delete videos from her phone and then punching her in the face. She was treated at Rush University Medical Center for a cut upper lip that required two stitches and later filed a police report. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability has opened an investigation. The department said no arrests have been made. Baker, who joined the force in December 2021, has accumulated more than a dozen misconduct complaints. The latest incident intensifies scrutiny of why he remained on duty after the still-unresolved shooting of Rivera, which the department has characterised as accidental but which Rivera’s family disputes.
