Former FTX executive Ryan Salame has been sentenced to seven and a half years (90 months) in prison for his involvement in the collapsed cryptocurrency exchange. Salame, who was a top lieutenant to FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried, received a sentence that exceeds the prosecution's recommendation of 5-7 years. The sentencing marks the first prison term handed down to a member of Bankman-Fried's inner circle. Salame had previously pleaded guilty in September 2023 to charges including making illegal political donations, deceiving the Federal Election Commission, and running an unlicensed money transfer business. In addition to the prison term, Salame was ordered to pay over $6 million in forfeiture and over $5 million in restitution, and will also serve three years of supervised release following his prison term. Despite his conviction, Salame will be allowed to keep his Porsche.
