Former Las Vegas City Councilwoman and current Nye County Justice of the Peace, Michele Fiore, has been indicted on federal charges of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Fiore is accused of defrauding donors by soliciting funds for a memorial statue to honor police officers killed in the line of duty. Instead of using the donations for the intended purpose, prosecutors allege that Fiore used the money for personal expenses, including her daughter's wedding, rent, and travel. The indictment includes four counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy, with each count carrying a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. Fiore, who has a history of campaign finance discrepancies and tax liens, allegedly raised more than $70,000.
