The House Ethics Committee has confirmed it is expanding its investigation into Florida Republican Representative Matt Gaetz. The expanded probe includes allegations of sexual misconduct, illicit drug use, accepting improper gifts, dispensing special privileges, and obstructing justice. Gaetz has publicly denied these allegations, calling the investigations 'frivolous' and blaming his foe Kevin McCarthy. The committee has issued 25 subpoenas and interviewed multiple witnesses, including a woman who claimed Gaetz paid her for sex. The investigation, which began in April 2021, continues to uncover new allegations that merit further review. The committee has also subpoenaed and obtained Gaetz’s Venmo records and has been talking to witnesses from a prior Justice Department sex trafficking investigation involving the congressman.
