Bryan Kohberger, the former criminology graduate student serving four consecutive life sentences for the 2022 murders of four University of Idaho undergraduates, has asked to be moved to a different unit inside the Idaho Maximum Security Institution, according to prison records first reported by People and confirmed by multiple media outlets. In a handwritten “resident concern form” dated July 30, Kohberger requested a transfer from J-Block, where he is held in solitary confinement, to B-Block, citing “minute-by-minute verbal threats/harassment” and recent incidents of cell flooding. Less than a week later, on Aug. 4, he filed a second complaint alleging another inmate threatened to sexually assault him, writing that guards had overheard the remark. Idaho Department of Correction officials have denied the transfer, advising Kohberger to remain in J-Block and stating that security staff “maintain a safe and orderly environment” and that verbal taunts are common in prison. Kohberger, now 30, was sentenced on July 23 and is expected to spend the rest of his life at the facility near Boise.
