Grammy-winning rapper Lil Nas X was arrested early Thursday after Los Angeles police responded to reports of a nearly nude man walking on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City, the LAPD said. Officers arrived just before 6 a.m. and identified the suspect as the 26-year-old artist, whose legal name is Montero Lamar Hill. Police and multiple broadcast outlets, including NBC News and ABC7, reported that Hill charged at officers—allegedly striking one—before being restrained. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation of a possible drug overdose, then booked into the Valley Jail in Van Nuys on suspicion of misdemeanor battery and obstructing a police officer. No bail had been set as of Thursday evening. Footage published by TMZ appears to show Hill earlier in the morning walking down the middle of Ventura Boulevard wearing only white underwear and cowboy boots, singing and inviting onlookers to a “party.” Investigators are still determining whether substance use or a mental-health episode contributed to the incident, and the rapper’s representatives have not commented. Hill rose to global prominence with his 2019 hit “Old Town Road,” which set a Billboard Hot 100 record, and has won two Grammy Awards. The LAPD said the investigation remains open and additional charges could follow pending toxicology results.
