A federal grand juror who helped review the state’s prosecution of Karen Read has agreed to plead guilty to criminal contempt for leaking confidential information from the secret proceeding, according to court documents unsealed in Boston. Prosecutors say Jessica M. Leslie, 34, of Dracut, disclosed witness names, testimony and other evidence while the material was under seal. The charging papers allege Leslie shared the information on multiple occasions between Aug. 11, 2022 and March 4, 2024, violating federal court rules that bar disclosure of grand-jury matters. Officials did not identify the recipients of the leaks but confirmed the material related to the high-profile Read investigation. Under a plea agreement announced by U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley and FBI Boston Special Agent-in-Charge Ted E. Docks, Leslie will receive a sentence of one day in custody, deemed already served, followed by 24 months of supervised release and a $100 mandatory assessment. A change-of-plea hearing has yet to be scheduled. The federal grand jury examined allegations that state authorities mishandled the case against Karen Read, who was accused of killing her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe, during a January 2022 snowstorm. Read was acquitted of murder and other serious charges in June 2025, although she was convicted of a misdemeanor driving-under-the-influence count. The federal probe ended without additional charges, but the leak case marks the first prosecution to emerge from the inquiry.
