Rhode Island Special Assistant Attorney General Devon Hogan Flanagan was arrested by Newport police on 14 Aug 2025 outside the Clarke Cooke House restaurant after staff asked that she and her companions be removed. Newly released body-camera footage shows Flanagan, who appeared intoxicated, asking officers to switch off their cameras, repeating that she was “an AG,” and warning, “You’re gonna regret this,” before being handcuffed. Police charged the 37-year-old prosecutor with willful trespass, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. A companion, PepsiCo executive Veronica Hannan, faces the same counts after briefly slipping out of her handcuffs. Both women were issued summonses and released. Attorney General Peter F. Neronha said his office began an internal review immediately after the arrest and expects to conclude it within days. In a radio interview on 20 Aug 2025, Neronha called the conduct “inexcusable,” confirmed that Flanagan has been taken off duty, and said she will be suspended without pay, pending the outcome of the inquiry. Flanagan, who has spent seven years in the appellate unit of the criminal division, has not commented publicly.
