Police in Las Vegas have reported that Matthew Alan Livelsberger, a 37-year-old highly decorated soldier and former Green Beret, used generative AI tools, including ChatGPT, to plan the explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump International Hotel on New Year's Day. Authorities discovered a six-page manifesto on Livelsberger's phone detailing his intentions and found that he had used ChatGPT to gather information on explosives and planning. Sheriff Kevin McMahill described the use of generative AI in orchestrating the attack as a "game-changer" and stated that this is the first known instance in the U.S. where such tools have been used to assist in an attack. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is sharing information with other law enforcement agencies.
