South Dakota Mail Carrier Pleads Guilty to Stealing Menards Rebate Receipts; Former Sheriff’s Employee Repays £100,000

A South Dakota mail carrier has pleaded guilty to intercepting rebate receipts and slips intended for Menards, a Midwest-based home improvement retailer. The carrier took these documents, which were mailed to Menards' rebate center in Wisconsin, and submitted fraudulent rebate forms using the stolen receipts to claim the rebates for himself. Menards typically offers mail-in rebates requiring customers to send forms and receipts to a P.O. box in Wisconsin. Investigators confirmed the carrier's method involved filling out new forms with the stolen receipts to receive the rebate payments. Separately, a former sheriff’s employee has also pleaded guilty to theft and is making repayments, with reports indicating a repayment amount of £100,000.
