Chicago resident Jeremy Zaloun, 50, has been indicted on 12 burglary counts, one count of felony theft and possession of a U.S. Postal Service master key after a joint investigation by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service’s Chicago Division and the Chicago Police Department. Prosecutors allege Zaloun used the master key to raid mailrooms in at least 11 downtown and West Loop buildings between September 2024 and June 2025, stealing residents’ mail and roughly $28,145 worth of film equipment. He was arrested early on 12 June when a resident confronted him inside an apartment building on West Adams Street; officers later found bundled mail and the key ring in his possession. Zaloun is being held in Cook County Jail for violating the terms of pretrial release imposed in a separate 2023 mail-theft case. His criminal record includes a 2018 burglary conviction and a role as a witness in a high-profile 2021 River North murder trial. A bond hearing on the new charges is pending.
