A shooting inside Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, disrupted a Catholic Mass on Wednesday, 27 August. Fifth-grade student Weston Halsne told local media outlets that a classmate, identified only as Victor, lay on top of him when gunfire erupted, absorbing a bullet to shield him. Halsne said Victor was struck in the back and transported to hospital. Authorities have not yet released an official casualty count or information about the suspect. Police have cordoned off the campus and are interviewing students and staff. Parents were directed to a reunification center nearby. The incident marks the latest in a series of shootings at U.S. schools this year. Minneapolis city officials said they will provide an update once the injured student’s condition and security measures have been confirmed.
