Ethereum's latest update, Dencun, has significantly reduced transaction fees on its Layer 2 network, with reductions ranging from 50% to 98%. The update, which combines two major upgrades, has already resulted in Layer 2 fees dropping to an average of $0.40. This development paves the way for the upcoming Proto-Danksharding upgrade. Following the Dencun upgrade, the median cost of trade fees on Uniswap has decreased by 96%. Additionally, the cost of sending data to Ethereum via Layer 2 solutions like Optimism, Arbitrum, and zkSync has seen dramatic decreases. For instance, Optimism's fees dropped from $307.91 to $4.18, Arbitrum's from $297.87 to $31.59, and zkSync's from $320.75 to $36.5. These reductions are part of the broader impact of the Dencun upgrade, which is also expected to benefit Ethereum rollups with fee drops reported up to 99% in some cases.
