Vitalik Buterin, along with co-authors Sam Wilson, Ansgar Dietrichs, and Matt Garnett, has proposed a new Ethereum Improvement Proposal, EIP-7702, as an alternative to EIP-3074. This proposal introduces a new transaction type that allows Ethereum's externally owned accounts (EOAs) to temporarily function as smart contract wallets, reverting to their original state post-transaction. EIP-7702 aims to refine account abstraction by leveraging existing infrastructure from ERC-4337 while reducing technical debt by avoiding new opcodes. The proposal also includes features like batch and sponsored transactions, enhancing the scalability and security of the Ethereum network. Notably, Vitalik wrote EIP-7702 in just 22 minutes, 90 minutes before an Ethereum Foundation meeting that was set to debate EIP-3074.
