In the first quarter of 2025, the blockchain and cryptocurrency ecosystems saw notable growth and technological advancements across multiple platforms. Mantle Network shifted its focus from Layer 2 scaling to becoming a full-stack onchain finance hub, introducing new initiatives such as a crypto index fund and AI-focused development. The stablecoin market cap on Mantle increased by 27%, and its data availability nodes expanded from 10 to over 200. Avalanche (AVAX) experienced a substantial upgrade with Avalanche9000 going live, enhancing interoperability and facilitating the launch of nine new Layer 1 blockchains, including mainnets from Playoff The Grid and MapleStoryU, reinforcing Avalanche's position in the gaming sector. Key metrics for Avalanche showed a 23.6% increase in daily average transactions, an 81.4% rise in daily active addresses, and a 61.9% growth in DeFi total value locked (TVL). The average daily active addresses (DAAs) across Avalanche's C-Chain and all Layer 1s rose 81% quarter-over-quarter to 167,300, with Lamina1 leading growth at 145% to 23,500 DAAs. Ethereum's Layer 2 solutions also demonstrated rapid capacity expansion year-over-year, with Base up 576%, Ink up 512%, and OP Mainnet up 273%, contributing to faster and cheaper transactions and broader ecosystem adoption. Scroll blockchain reached 55,000 daily transactions and over 6,000 active addresses, driven by steady contract deployments and activity from Ambient Finance and LayerZero.
