32-year-old Sam Bankman-Fried, the former CEO of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX, has filed an appeal against his conviction and a 25-year prison sentence for committing a multibillion-dollar fraud at FTX, resulting in stealing $8 billion from customers. He has requested to remain in MDC Brooklyn jail pending the appeal to have better access to his counsel, rather than being moved to a federal penitentiary. This appeal follows his recent sentencing, where he faced the prospect of spending much of his adult life behind bars. The notice of appeal was filed with the court of the Southern District of New York, with defense lawyer Marc Mukasey announcing plans for the appeal during the March 28 sentencing hearing.
