Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has emphasized the need for the global economy to develop alternatives to the US dollar for international transactions. Lula highlighted that Brazil does not require the US currency for trade with other countries and expressed frustration with economic subordination to Western powers. He indicated that the BRICS nations will continue discussions on alternatives to the dollar. Furthermore, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed that Lula proposed the creation of a common BRICS currency as part of efforts to establish a financial system independent of the US dollar. Lula also warned that without immediate reforms, the international order maintained since 1945 under the United Nations could collapse within the year.
