Disney's 'Alien: Romulus' and 'Deadpool & Wolverine' Lead Box Office, Securing 42% of Summer Sales

Walt Disney Studios has dominated the domestic box office this summer, accounting for 42% of ticket sales. The studio holds the top two spots with 'Alien: Romulus' and 'Deadpool & Wolverine,' both of which are R-rated films acquired from 20th Century Fox. 'Alien: Romulus' opened with $41.5 million domestically and $108 million globally. This success highlights Disney's strategic acquisition of Fox franchises, which continue to prove valuable beyond the 'Avatar' series. The films' success underscores Disney's effective marketing strategies, including decisions like not fully showing Hugh Jackman's Wolverine in the initial teaser for 'Deadpool & Wolverine,' which generated significant anticipation. The success is part of an unexpectedly strong August, demonstrating Disney's M&A strategy and its impact on the Magic Kingdom's box office dominance.
