Former US bankruptcy judge David Jones has been ordered to attend 7.5 hours of ethics instruction as a sanction for having an off-the-record discussion with Jackson Walker, a law firm where his romantic partner previously worked. This decision was made by a Houston bankruptcy judge. Additionally, a federal judge dismissed a racketeering lawsuit that accused Jones and two law firms, Kirkland & Ellis and Jackson Walker, of conspiring to conceal Jones' relationship with an attorney to maintain their business in his court. The lawsuit was dismissed with 'some consternation' by Chief US District Judge Alia Moses, who noted that Jones' conduct cast a 'specter of impropriety' over the courthouse. The dismissal of the lawsuit also included claims against former Jackson Walker partner Elizabeth Freeman.
