The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) under Chair Lina Khan has proposed a rule called 'Click to Cancel' which aims to simplify the process of canceling subscriptions. This rule would require companies to make it as easy to cancel a subscription as it is to sign up. The FTC is currently working towards finalizing this rule as part of its proposed amendment to the negative option rule. In many states, including California, Colorado, and New York, it is already illegal for companies to require phone calls for subscription cancellations if the subscription was initiated online. Companies violating this law face heavy penalties.
Thank you FTC!!! It is so frustrating to cancel some subscriptions these days. I just went through this the other day! https://t.co/BrhMHkkyso
Can't "unsubscribe" from unwanted email? Tell the FTC at https://t.co/uX3wWAX4zf https://t.co/KYtjn4LjUU
FYI, this is illegal in California. If a service allows you to subscribe via the Internet, they must also provide a way to cancel your subscription via the Internet, or they face heavy penalties. https://t.co/ZOGLYM1GmL
