A U.S. judge has ruled that Meta Platforms must face a lawsuit brought by billionaire Australian mining magnate Andrew Forrest. Forrest sued Meta over scam Facebook advertisements that used deepfakes of him promoting fake cryptocurrency and other fraudulent investments. The court rejected Meta's bid to dismiss the lawsuit, allowing Forrest's claims of publicity rights and negligence to proceed. Forrest alleged that Meta's software, including its AI advertising tools and GenAI tools, helped create some of the scam ads.
