The US stock market is experiencing significant milestones, with several sectors hitting all-time highs. The TSE and S&P 500 indices are close to their peak levels, while the equal-weighted S&P 500 Financials sector has reached a new high. However, the equal-weighted S&P Tech sector remains below its previous high. Since mid-July, the equal-weighted version of the S&P 500 has outperformed the cap-weighted version. Additionally, there has been a shift in market leadership, with smaller companies outperforming larger ones in the second half of 2024. The S&P 600, which lagged behind the S&P 500 by 16% in H1, has outperformed by 6% in H2, with the S&P 500 Top 50 becoming underperformers.
While upward trend in U.S. equities has remained intact in 2H2024, leadership has moved from behemoths to minnows: while S&P 600 underperformed S&P 500 by 16% in H1, it’s outperformed by 6% so far in H2 (S&P 500 Top 50 flipped to underperformer) @SPDJIndices https://t.co/YWWyBXO0bz
