The US Treasury is scheduled to auction a series of government securities next week, including $69 billion of 2-year notes on May 27, $70 billion of 5-year notes on May 28, and $44 billion of 7-year notes on May 29. The 2-year and 5-year notes will settle on June 2, while the 7-year notes will also settle on June 2. In addition to these note sales, the Treasury will auction $68 billion of 6-month bills and $76 billion of 3-month bills on May 27, with settlements on May 29. The auction schedule will be tighter than usual and will also include 2-year floating rate notes and other bills. A buyback of 20-year to 30-year Treasuries is planned for Thursday, May 29. Furthermore, the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) and Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) UST futures first notice day is set for Friday, May 30, with the roll for the 10-year note futures (ZN) approximately 40% complete as of the previous trading session. Treasury yields have recently declined by 2 to 7 basis points ahead of these auctions, with June options expiration and early market close times influencing trading activity.
