Google Opens NotebookLM to Students Aged 13 and Up Amid AI Learning Push
Google has removed most age restrictions on NotebookLM, its Gemini-powered AI note-taking and study platform. The company said the service is now available to consumers aged 13 and older and to Google Workspace for Education users of any age, expanding access that was previously limited to those 18 and over. NotebookLM lets students upload documents, websites or Google files and then query the material, generate summaries, mind maps, audio briefings or video presentations. Google said the expansion comes with stricter content filters for minors, and reiterated that user files are neither reviewed by humans nor used to train its models. The move positions Google more directly against rival offerings such as OpenAI’s new study mode for ChatGPT as technology companies race to secure a foothold in the growing market for AI-driven educational tools ahead of the new school year.
